SITE: JobNob CATEGORY: Company Information PURPOSE: Jobnob has data on salaries for specific jobs for individual companies and industries in the U.S. FEE/FREE: FREE SOURCE CHECK: Jobnob, created by Julie Greenberg and Alan Shusterman, is a very small private firm located in San Francisco. OUR VIEW: While this site is geared to surfacing salary ranges for professions and individual companies, it could also be used as a source for doing general company research as well . You can search Jobnob’s database by company name, profession, or individual name. One caution is that for some titles/firms, there is only a very small sampling of salary information, so you often have to be careful in extrapolating the data to the entire firm. Consider this site if you want to find salary ranges for a profession or to get a sense of the salary ranges for certain jobs at specific companies. |

SITE: Evri URL: http://www.evri.com CATEGORY: Search Engine/Directory/News/Social Media PURPOSE: Evri filters and surfaces news on specific topics by reviewing data streams from traditional wire and online services as well as social media sources such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. FEE/FREE: FREE SOURCE CHECK: Evri, which is currently in beta, is funded by Paul Allen’s well-known Vulcan Capital. It is based in Seattle and was launched in 2008. OUR VIEW: While there is no shortage of search engines, directories, and news filtering sites, it’s rare to find new ones that add something of value to the existing news aggregation landscape. We were intrigued with Evri’s capabilities to pull relevant streams of information from multiple sources on a specific topic—which of course could also include an industry, company, or other topic of interest to business researchers. There are pre-existing topics, or you can enter a term to create your own set of news sources. Consider this site if you want to find out what real-time, social media, and other breaking information sites are saying about whatever topic you are researching. |
